With a special process,GRAFE is able to test and simulate color ideas for multilayer applications as early as the development phase. Multilayer applications are used in a variety of ways in the packaging and pharmaceutical industries to protect products from environmental influences and extend their shelf life. In the furniture industry or for high-quality consumer goods, laminates are a cost-effective alternative that achieve a high-quality surface appearance – and that with a minimal use of effect pigments. “The substrate material in the base color, in combination with the applied effect carrier, saves on the need for solid-colored plastic,” explains Schulze, Head of Color Development and Material Sciences. A decorative film that carries expensive effect pigments for the optics is combined with the cost-effective, solid-colored base material, which ensures the stability of the product,” the expert adds. ”This combination of a base layer and a translucent effect layer enables unique color effects that cannot be achieved with mono-coloring, or only at great expense.” The challenge in developing the color design lies in the dosage of the pigments in the top layer in combination with the appearance of the substrate. “With our technology, color ideas can be tested cost-effectively and simulated in-house, saving the customer time, material and machine setup costs, and thus also product development costs,” reports Schulze. With its specially developed sample profiles, GRAFE offers its customers a service that allows them to get an impressive picture in advance. “Using four basic colors, from white to gray to black shades, we have applied various effect variants. They illustrate the depth effect achieved by layering, due to the multi-layer structure,” the color developer explains, pointing out that the top coat can also be equipped with the desired properties, additives or aggregates. Every individual color development is included in our development service.”

For prototypes, pilot and small series... Vacuum casting SYNPRO

The SYNPRO Vacuum casting technology is a particularly economical process for the production of prototypes and pre-series or small series. With SYNPRO, we realize even minimum batch sizes without high tooling costs, in the desired design and “just in time”. Our special SYNPRO vacuum casting technology is particularly suitable for the production of plastic parts with special requirements and for the recasting of components. Different materials that can be combined with each other provide additional design flexibility. We develop 3D design proposals or 3D constructions for you according to your ideas and produce an individual master model. For this, we use our modern 3D printing processes. The casting mold is created by pouring silicone onto the finished master cast. The mold cavity is then filled with casting resin under vacuum. The materials that are used have a wide variety of properties such as shore hardness, temperature resistance, impact resistance, fire performance and a wide range of approvals (FDA, etc.). There are almost unlimited options for the colouring of all materials including the possibility of transparent variants. All sprues, separation points and material residues are carefully removed during reworking. Subsequent holes and threads can be inserted without any problems. Functional additives

Palsgaard was founded in 1919. With 500 employees worldwide, the company is of great importance to the food industry. With the invention of food emulsifiers, Palsgaard revolutionised the mass production of food and continues to play a leading role in research and development in this field, and recently the concentrated development of polymer additives with the same structure as found in food chemistry has resulted in a range of highly efficient and safe functional additives for a number of different polymer applications. The main focus is on antistatic, antifog, demoulding and slip properties, as well as improved pigment dispersion for food packaging products. Palsgaard has a dedicated team of developers and technicians with decades of experience both in the development of polymer additives and in providing technical application advice to our customers. Modern laboratory equipment supports the continuous development projects, through which new additive solutions and concepts are regularly introduced. The development centre is an important basis for ensuring that the best possible solution for the respective packaging application or technical problem solution is always developed for customers. Palsgaard has five production sites - in Denmark, the Netherlands, Mexico, Brazil and Malaysia. Production in Denmark has been 100% carbon neutral since 2015, followed by Mexico in 2016 and the Netherlands in 2017. Palsgaard has set itself the goal of operating all production sites completely emission-free by 2020.
